The BBC News has this interesting video story about a Georgian monk who has worked to rebuild a remote monastery, and wishes to stay there.

I have heard about this man. I think he's the only living stylite, or at least hoping to be one.

I wonder if there are stylites living in trees somewhere that no one knows about.

There's a specific name for the tree-dwellers, but I can't remember it.

I hadn't heard of the term, and my googlefu has failed me... anyone else know?

Ah, I looked up St. David of Thessalonica and I see that he's called a dendrite.

In the Russian film 1612 (a historical fantasy about the Time of Troubles) there is a dendrite prominently featured, but I think he is called a stylite in the film.

I wonder who is the former stylite of which Fr. Maximos is talking about and whose bones are seen in that video? Is he canonized by the Georgian Church?
