This makes me completely sick.  I pray for all the alleged victims and for Sister Christonymphi.  It disturbed me to read that she "has left the monastic life..."  Perhaps he meant to say she left the monastery?  Please continue to update us.

I hope that there are sources outside of the Herald for information. Has this been reported in the secular press? The website of St. Irene's does not say much except for a reference to continuing 'Patriarchal Exarchy Hearings' being conducted in Queens this week.

Lord, have mercy and grant the Church and its leaders strength during this difficult period.

I looked up the Queens Chronicle, a local newspaper, but they didn't have anything. There was something on a website called the Greek Reporter: Article here

Here is the monastery's own website:

May the Lord have mercy on this poor Nun.  The imbalance of power between an Abbott or Bishop and this child of God is HUGE.  May the Lord restore her to Himself in every way and punish those who abused her.

To the Russians abroad it has been granted to shine in the whole world  the light of Orthodoxy, so that other peoples, seeing their good deeds, might glorify our Father in Heaven, and thus obtain salvation

^Nymphi (or nymphos for the masculine) means bride (husband) in the classical Greek.  Her tonsured name, Christonymphi means "bride of Christ" which is more than appropriate.

The word nymph has its derivation from the same word, but in English usage, nymph refers to a group of semi-divine women creatures who were known for their attractiveness and sexual desires.
