St. Athanasius Greek Orthodox Church in Arlington, Massachusetts, this week
hosted a conference by the Boston Federation of Greek Orthodox Musicians. The church is a central part of the community, which continually seeks to both preserve its heritage, and find new ways for the growing population to become involved.
From the article:
Nicole Vankuilenburg says she was pleasantly surprised by the number of youth singing in the choir conference this year – about fifteen. Three or four teens show up to sing in church each week. But she's hopeful the Church can get more young people involved.
"It's stressful because a lot of kids see it as an obligation," Vankuilenburg says. "I try to make it fun for them."
