Could someone please explain why he is no longer listed as the Catholicos on the website of the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church?

I think he just retired and helped consecrate his successor.

Yeah, I think you're right. I just heard about his consecrating the new Catholicos earlier today.

Seems a little odd. Is this typical for a primate to be allowed to just retire?

I don't know.  I guess if you make it to the age of 90 and you say you want to retire, how can they say no to you?  It's not like they can tell you that you are too young to retire.   Smiley

I seem to recall that St. Gregory the Illuminator retired so he could practice greater asceticism, so it's not unprecedented.
