I have been unable to attend church for the past couple of weeks and won't be able to go to Liturgy this morning, either. It is somewhat depressing, there is no place I'd rather be than in the presence of my Lord and fellow Christians, but my current lack of job and transportation is keeping me away. To make matters worse, in the area I find myself in most recently, the Sunday Divine Liturgy is the only service offered by the local Greek and OCA churches (with preceding Orthros for the former and Hours for the latter). I'm really missing Saturday Vespers. It's really not helping being in a new area and not knowing anyone (aside from my dad, who has been kind enough to drop me off when he can).
The funny part about this is that I am actually closer to Orthodox Churches than I have been at any point since I started going, but I am now finding it much more difficult to get to them!

I am truly sorry, bro. I wish that you still lived with us so I could take you to church with me, I miss having you there as do many other people. I would tell you to get a bike, but knowing the area I know that even that would not be feasible transportation for you. I pray that you find a job and are able to get a car or some other means of transportation soon.

I've actually had that site, along with a few others, bookmarked for quite some time now. I do keep to the practice of reading the Typica when I cannot attend Church, and find it to be uplifting as well, but it doesn't quite replace (nor should it) being at the Church. Still, the site is a valuable resource, especially for someone like me who has never been quite too sure where he will be at any given time. |
