Church Photos
« on: October 22, 2010, 09:28:48 PM »
I've put together a couple of sets I thought might be of interest with some pictures I've taken or gathered and put on my flickr page.

The first is of my own parish and the set is here - http://www.flickr.com/photos/24557771@N02/sets/72157625076687335/

The second are public domain images I've found on the Library of Congress and those are here - http://www.flickr.com/photos/24557771@N02/sets/72157625061582483/

I would also be interested to see photos anyone has posted of their parishes.

Well, we still have kneelers and use them too!  This link http://www.flickr.com/photos/acrod/3614843456/ is a picture of the Metropolitan who founded our diocese in the 30's.  Just to give some background.

augustin717, where is that parish?  Is it in Romania?  I like the Ripidia.

....depends on the definition of "poor".  It seems like a very beautiful parish and "rich" in the things that are truly important!

Really! What jurisdiction are you? I haven't ever seen an Orthodox Bishop dress akin to a Roman Catholic, much less beardless. This is interesting.

Yeah, it's in Romania, a very good friend of mine is the priest there.

It happened often enough among the Greek-Catholics and Orthodox of the Habsburg/Dualist monarchy.

Carpatho-Russian, which is a misnomer because the founders were Rusyns.  The diocese was Greek Catholic until the 30's.  Here is a parish of the diocese with a nice picture of the sanctuary http://www.saintmichaels.info/

augustin717, again an interesting picture!  What is the Romanian word for what I would call the khorugv/banner with the picture of the Theotokos.  I have not seen another of that style.

It differs from region to region: inside the Carpathian arch is mostly "prapor(e)/prapur(e)", outside of the Carpathian arch is "steag" ("flag").

That's just because this one is a somehow naive, home-made one.

My parish is St. George Greek Orthodox Church, New Port Richey, Florida.   :)

The icons from the interior of the dome:

St. Matthew

St. Mark

St. Luke

St. John

Christ Pantokrator

I believe I took this at the end of the liturgy:

If you sit facing the front, this would be an interior view of the left-side windows.

The 'Platytera ton Ouranon' (which I used for my avatar):

 :)
He will come again with glory to judge the living and the dead. His kingdom will have no end.

I took some more pictures of the altar today that are better resolution.  The last one was with my blackberry.  The updated set is here - http://www.flickr.com/photos/24557771@N02/sets/72157625076687335/

For the terminally bored today, I also have a set with some other Orthodox images in it - http://www.flickr.com/photos/24557771@N02/sets/72157625095990823/

here are more of my parish:

(a bit old, but a great view)

(a truly blessed moment, just after my godmother's baptism)

sorry for the vanity, but this is of me receiving absolution.  it was as moment I'll never forget, and it also has a great wider view of our beautiful temple.

I also want to point out that our parish was received from Byzantine Catholicism into Orthodoxy by my patron Saint, Tikhon of Moscow.

omg, I remember that temple!  I remember passing it years ago (long before I became a catechumen) when I would get off 980 to go to my office in Oakland.  I knew it was one of "those" Orthodox churches because of the Greek lettering above the columns.  I always wanted to stop and peer inside, but, alas, I never did.  It was very impressive.
