New priest for Georgia (U.S.) parish

Fr. Barnabas Powell
was once a police officer; he was also once a member of the Baptist Church, and then a Pentecostal Church, before he developed an interest in the Orthodox Church. This year he can be called a pastor, as he was ordained to the priesthood in March and more recently appointed head of the parish of
Sts. Raphael, Nicholas and Irene
, in Cumming, Georgia.

Interesting, Sts. RNI Is where my brother and I were chrismated earlier this year. I was wondering who was replacing Fr. Jim since he moved to North Carolina...
Thank you for posting this

Axios Fr. Barnabas!
I was at Ss. Nicholas, Raphael, and Irene a year ago; exactly one week before I left Atlanta.
Great people -- great parish!
I met Fr. Barnabas while visiting Holy Cross in the spring. Wonderful man!
I wish him all the best!

Fr. Barnabus is a very dear friend. Fr. Christos and I are so thrilled that he and Pres. Connie and the family are close by now! And from what I hear, he's doing an incredible job up there in Cumming!

At the Saints Nicholas, Raphael, and Irene website, Father Barnabas has a very inspiring message (

. Also, please check this interview of him by Frederica Mathewes-Greene at
