We need to travel to our Church in Atlanta to have little Hosanna baptized as soon as possible. It seems we are encountering some spiritual opposition, and we need your prayers. The trip is about 6-7 hours, and we will need to stay at least one night in a motel. My parents have a house in Atlanta which they no longer live in, but nevertheless they will not allow us to stay there. They have also told me emphatically not to bring our baby to Atlanta to have her baptized. My parents do not even live in Atlanta, and it is very confusing and very hurtful to have them treat us this way. I cannot imagine why they would try to interfere with our wishes to have Hosanna baptized. I love them very much, but they are unbelievers and can be very unreasonable and difficult at times. I have probably said too much already, and I do not mean to be disrespectful in saying such things. Anyway, we need some financial assistance in order for us to make the trip. We would like to go as soon as possible, due to the urgency of our daughter's health issues.( http://www.orthodoxchristianity.net/forum/index.php/topic,28719.msg471397.html#msg471397) The doctor has ok'd her to travel to Atlanta since she is doing well right now. But her health could deteriorate at any time, and so we do not want to procrastinate too much. We would appreciate your prayers for Hosanna's baptism, for the financial means to make the trip, and also for our relationship with my parents whom I love so deeply. I know these obstacles are ultimately spiritual in nature, as St. Paul says "We wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities and powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places." [Ephesians 6:12] Thank you! Selam

Lord have mercy and help your servants!
Forgive me brother, but would you ever consider getting her baptized at the Greek parish in town? I know this wouldn't be ideal for you, but it might be an acceptable option to you, because I know that you consider us brothers and sisters.

Lord, have mercy!
Gebre, I second Alveus' advice, and would also offer that under the extremely difficult circumstances, couldn't the priest from the Ethiopian Church travel to your house to baptise Hosanna rather than you all having to undergo such a difficult trip with a very young baby? I think that would be a much easier option, really.
I am so sad for you all that your parents are so hostile.

It probably would not be right to have her baptized in the Greek Church if it is his intention to raise her to commune in the Ethiopian Church. Gebre, Would one of the Coptic parishes in Louisiana or Alabama be an option? They would still be quite a drive, but they are closer to you than Georgia. http://www.suscopts.org/diocese/churches/

Huh? Why not? Because it is an "independent" parish (under no bishop).

Thank you everyone for your prayerful support. We will be leaving in the morning (Saturday Nov 20) for Atlanta. Hosanna will be Baptized Sunday morning around 7:30. Please continue to keep her in your prayers. I am deeply grateful to LizaSymonenko, Agia Marina, and Alveus Lacuna for their generosity and kindness. We have received tremendous encouragement and support from so many people, and we have truly felt all of your prayers. Hosanna continues to defy the odds, and no doubt because of all the spiritual support she is receiving from the Orthodox Christian community. I hope to post some pictures of Hosanna's Baptism next week. Thank you all once again! Selam, Gebre Menfes Kidus

Hosanna Maryam departed in the Lord Monday evening, November 22, 2010 on the way home from her Baptism Sunday morning. She was baptized on St. Michael Day, and received the baptismal name Welete Mikael, “Daughter of St. Michael.” Doctors did not expect her to live one month, but she lived to be almost 11 weeks old. She fulfilled God’s purpose for her life on earth, and now she abides with the angels, interceding on our behalf. So many people have been tremendously supportive of our family, and I cannot thank all of you enough for your prayers, kindness, and encouragement over these past weeks. Because of your sincere Christian love and faithfulness in prayer, Hosanna Maryam not only survived but lived a blessed life until she was able to be baptized. Little Hosanna will always be with us, and it is my prayer that we will all be found worthy to one day join her in the eternal presence of our Lord and our God. May her memory be eternal. Selam, Gebre Menfes Kidus
