Congratulations to Archon of the Ecumenical Throne, Michael Kundrat of St. Michael's Orthodox Church (ACROD) Binghamton, NY who is receiving an honorary Doctorate from the University of Uzhorod, Transcarpathia, Ukraine on Oct 18. Archon Michael is being honored for his lead role in acquiring needed medical equipment and supplies through the USA's State Department sponsored Operation Hope program for Uzhorod Regional Medical Center. Michael is leaving this week for Uzhorod with his sons, Michael and Joseph along with Dr. Nicholas Seketa. During the war, as a young man, Michael was a resistence fighter in Slovakia against the Nazis. After coming to America, he served in the US Air Force. He  has been active at St. Michael's and ACROD for many years with his wife of over fifty years, Delores.  Michael is the grandfather of National Junior ACRY President Maria Korchak. Mnohaja i Blahaja L'ita! Many Years! Axios!

What is the definition and function of an "archon of the Ecum. Patriarch"?

Archons are members of the Order of St. Andrew and have received the title from the Ecumenical Patriarch upon the recommendation of their Diocesan Bishop to the Ecumenical Patriarchate. Here is a link to their website: http://archons.org/  Many of the readers may be surprised that the Order includes lay persons from not only the Greek Archdiocese of America, but Dioceses under the omophor of the the Patriarch such as the UOC and ACROD.
