Regardless of one's feelings about the EP, Ecumenism, and the preparations for a council, this is a sad time for the center which houses 5 parishes in 3 Churches.  Lord, have mercy.

How can we have an ecumenical meeting in Christianism without the main Eastern Orthodox authority?

Contrary to the partial thread title's appearance, the Gov't of Greece is not funding the Center in Switzerland, which has nothing to do with the essential operation of the EP (or any other Church body, for that matter).

How do you square with the following excerpts from the article?

"...staff-members of the center were involved in preparations for the All-Orthodox Council, Patriarch Bartholomew used to talk about. Many of them had extensive experience in inter-Orthodox cooperation and participated in session of the Council's preparatory committee.

The Chambesy Center has a theological institute that alongside with theological faculties in Lausanne and Geneva prepared specialists in Orthodox theology. Prominent church figures were among its graduates."

Incidentally, I had asked the question about the Greek state's economic woes impacting Constantinople. See http://www.orthodoxchristianity.net/forum/index.php/topic,29889.0.html
