Dear folks,

May I ask you to say a prayer for the success of a dawning new project that I have just started earleir today.

It habenned quite accidentally. Very early this morning, I posted a prayer in Ukrainian on facebook. Suddenly I got a comment from a FB friend, Y., that one word in the prayer should be better replaced by a synonym that sounds more genuinely Ukrainian. We chatted, and it turned out that Y. has a good working knowledge of Greek, and of several Slavic languages (by his heritage he is half-Russian and half-Ukrainian, born and raised in central Ukraine, currently lives in Belarus). He also keeps a live journal where he shares his experience as a translator of liturgical texts.

I wrote him that I will link him to a Ukrainian Orthodox bishop here in the USA, Bp. +DANIEL (Zelinsky), the person from whom I got my Ukrainian prayerbook in 2007. Y. wants to go over the entire paryerbook and offer his comments to His Eminence.

Ideally, this project might, as I certainly do hope, grow into creation of a prayerbook in the modern vernacular Ukrainian that the UOC (MP) will use in Ukraine. So far, it has none. Sad fact, UOC being the only canonical Orthodox Church in Ukraine...

Y. is a UOC (MP) faithful, but he is not a Russian chauvinist or imperialist, like some UOC (MP) laymen and clerics and hierarchs. He actually cares a lot about Ukraine. His written Ukrainian is spectacular!

Please pray that the Lord helps us to do it... Thank you.
