Holy Father Patrick, pray for us

Met. Hilarion asks, "What makes you so sure?"

Here is a link to Met. Hilarion's speech given yesterday to the Nicean Club during a visit to Canterbury. In it he questions the belief held by Anglicans and expressed in their acquiescence to a female episcopate that the dialogues with the Orthodox Church would not be impacted by such a decision. This speech isn't a sound bite for use in journalistic puff pieces. This is a comprehensive and incisive speech on where things were before, how things are now, and how things will go if the Anglican Church continues on it's current trajectory. I see that Metropolitan Hilarion says:

"Our Church must sever its relations with those churches and communities that trample on the principles of Christian ethics and traditional morals."

Since he is Head of the Department of External Church Relationships of the Russian Patriachate he is in a position not only to say such a thing but to implement it.

Is there any news of how his speech has been received by the Anglican press?

Metropolitan Hilarion's speech was right on target. I hope and pray that his audience will take it to heart.

Not yet. It was just posted at Virtueonline, and TitusOneNine and ThinkingAnglicans (the latter a liberal group) haven't posted it yet. T19 and Virtue's site are definitely on the conservative end of things (though more traditional Reform than Anglo-Catholic) and both report on Anglicanism in depth. TheAngloCatholic has cast its anchor with Rome but I'm sure they'll sink their teeth into it - Fr. Chadwick (TAC priest) is one of the best contributors on their site. Anglo-Catholics will respond to this the most, be it the FIF group or continuings like TAC. Two years ago, Cardinal Kaspar said charitably many of the same things but they went and voted for women bishops anyways.

If you want to get a gist of +Hilarion's "liberals", scan the comments here on women bishops:
