Great entry, as usual. You do have a gift for this sort of thing Mister Jim! BTW, the Father most probably did say "enjoy the feast." Let me guess that you first venerated the feast day icon, then kissed the Holy Bible, you stood for the Father to sign the Cross on your forehead (while saying "enjoy the feast") and then received holy bread that was dipped in wine. Right? In any case, that's what happened to me last night as we held the Vigil for the Nativity of Theotokos (new calendar). As an aside, I truly love Vigil services as they are long enough and rich enough to transport me to another realm. Certainly much better than anything else on the TV!  |

That's true: the antiphon at the Magnificat of the feast, in the Roman breviary is the same with our apolytikion: "Your Nativity ..." |

Everything you said except kissing the Bible...First we venerated the Icon, then Fr Gary made the sign of the Cross on my forehead with oil (..saying "Enjoy the Feast"), then came the holy bread dipped in wine served by the Altar boys...afterwards, everyone makes a round venerating the Icons on the wall. And I agree, better than anything on TV! |
