I was surprised that color photography was being expermented with that early, as opposed to tint-types that were colrized after being developed.

Absolutely beautiful pictures!! Isn't it amazing how very "modern" everyone looks when photographed in colour, rather than black and white?

That's probably because that's how the brain is used to seeing real life.  Black and white gives things a sense of unreality, remoteness.
