News of progress in the English mission of the Russian Orthodox Church Abroad

1. UK Missions

"Saint Petroc Monastery was appointed to set up new Western Rite missions in England by Archybishop Hilarion in November 2009.  Since that time two embryo missions:  Saint Eanswythe in Christchurch, Dorset and Saint Nectan in Barnstaple and environs, Devon have started.

"Saint Petroc [the Australian headquarters of the mission, Tasmania] now runs eight missions, including one lately added, run by a former Continuing Anglican clergyman with a number of former parishioners, one run by a former Roman Catholic clergyman and his former parishioners and one mostly composed of former Methodists."

2. New Hermitage

"The new Hermitage of Saint George the Martyr with Hieromonk Joshua is being set up by Saint Petroc Monastery.  More news as the project progresses."

Many years!
Question a friend, perhaps he did not do it; but if he did anything so that he may do it no more.
A hasty quarrel kindles fire,
and urgent strife sheds blood.
If you blow on a spark, it will glow;
if you spit on it, it will be put out;
                           and both come out of your mouth

The rumours that Fr Michael is too ill and that his various WR projects are failing are apparently unfounded.  Fr Michael continues to labour in the foundation of WR missions which will become the basis of convert groups in the UK and Australia.  Hopefully there will be younger men able to pick up the burden and continue the work.

"Contrary to recent anonymous email speculation implying that Fr. Michael is
ill, aged and that his work is failing, in fact he is extremely healthy,
active and with a lot of ongoing work. The Orthodox Church has no retiring
age - and there is certainly no requirement or interest in Fr. Michael's
retiring. Apart from being the Superior of the Monastery - which itself is
in the process of doubling its size and opening new outreach initiatives -
he oversees eight monastery missions. In any case - he is only one of a team
of people working on the English Western Rite project.

"His appointment by the Metropolitan as being in charge of English Western
Rite missions is only some six months old and is a very welcome challenge."

The blog you quote is dated 2007.

What is the relation of Father Michael to the new Russian hierarch in England? Is he in relation to him? or to which bishop in the UK?

All Western Rite ROCOR institutions are stauropigial and Fr. Michael reports directly to Met. Hilarion (Kapral).

I do not understand the 2007 date at the top of the blog but the news is current (July 2010) as we see by checking the two news items from Fr Michael's Ely Forum which commence this thread and comparing them to the same news items in the blog.......  the eight missions, Fr Michael's appointment to the UK work by the Metropolitan in November 2009, the recent creation of the hermitage with Fr Joshua, etc.

As Michael says, the Metropolitan has assumed responsibility for WR work throughout the Russian Church Abroad.  Most of our hierarchs are not well acquainted with Western Rite.

I see that another of Fr Michael's blogs has the same discrepancy between the date at the top of the blog and the dates of the actual news items which follow.  It seems he is overlooking the needed updates to the dates at the very top of his blogs.

Or he is so overwhelmed with the work of baptizing Anglicans in the UK that dates on blogs are not so important... :laugh:

I would be very interested in seeing a copy of the liturgical rite used by Father Michael, do you know if it is easily available online?

Seems to be this Mass.  I know very little about Anglican usage but is this an adaptation of the Eucharist in the BCP as authorised by the Russian Church?

To obtain a hard copy in the UK see the last message at the link below

I supose that if you signed into the Ely Forum, you could ask Fr Michael online.
