Do Oriental Orthodox Crown During Their Weddings?
« on: July 09, 2010, 08:01:48 PM »
I recently read that only Eastern Orthodox and Eastern-Rite Catholics do crownings during weddings.  That statement made me wonder about Oriental Orthodox practice.  Do you (or they) do crownings during weddings?

In the Armenian Church something called a "narod" is used.  This is discussed a little in posts 18-22 in this thread:

Copts use them too.
Question a friend, perhaps he did not do it; but if he did anything so that he may do it no more.
A hasty quarrel kindles fire,
and urgent strife sheds blood.
If you blow on a spark, it will glow;
if you spit on it, it will be put out;
                           and both come out of your mouth

Yes the Syriac Orthodox do crown the bride and groom:

In India, instead of crowns, gold chains are used instead of crowns:

It is interesting , I saw a marriage photo from the 1940's where a crown was used for the bride and groom instead of chains as used today.  So I wonder the current practice is very old.

Although one instance just tells us very little.  Probably will have to ask my grandma  :)
