I appreciate your prayers for my grandmother who passed away this past Thursday. My priest said memory eternal after Divine Liturgy today as well.
The situation is not all settled yet however. My grandfather, who suffered a major stroke last year, is also ill. He is developing dementia and just a few weeks ago my parents had to take him to the hospital after an outburst. He lives in Ohio, and my parents and I live in a neighboring state, about 6 hours drive away. He was in a "dementia" ward but my mother took him out and is now with him at his house, pending the funeral of my grandmother. My mother and father do not know what exactly to do with him, but my mother called me and said that she is "bringing grandpa home" and then told me not to argue against it because he is my grandfather, is a good man, and that I can't just go to church, give money to the church, and then not follow through with actions, making sacrifices, etc..
She is affected by the death of my grandmother (her mother) so it may be this is more of an emotional outlet. In itself, I think it is a horrible idea and would drive everyone at home crazy. My parents already go crazy after staying just a few days with him in OH. I think my grandfather would be all right near us, but in an assisted living/nursing home environment, instead of causing constant stress at home to everyone.
If you could pray that this is resolved well I would appreciate it.
Thanks

Sometimes our short words of prayer seem so shallow in response to such tremendous sufferings. But I guess when we really meditate upon them, nothing is more profound or necessary than to simply pray:
"Lord have mercy."
