Hello everyone.  Glory be to Jesus Christ!

It is my first time on the forum and I am asking you all to pray for my son Stephen.  He is 17 years old and we have always gone to church as a family.  He was raised in an Orthodox home.  He told me today that he doesn't think he needs a religion in his life right now.  He is questioning the Liturgy, Communion, the Gospel readings, etc.  He doesn't think God guides us in our lives.  He labeled himself as a "realist" and said that his decisions are made by himself and nothing else is influencing him.  I feel a piercing in my heart just as the Theotokos did when Christ was on the cross.  I never expected this and I feel like I got hit with a 2 x 4 piece of wood.

Please pray that God makes Himself present to Stephen.  I am also praying to St. Monica for her intercession.

Thank you.

In Christ,
Sandra

Welcome to the forum!

It sounds like a teenage rebellion.  I'll pray for him.

Welcome to the forum.

Hopefully, this is nothing more than teenage rebellion and that, in time, he will come back around.

Lord, have mercy.

Welcome to the forum.

...continue to be a good example and gently nudge him in the right direction.

Hopefully, it's just a phase (peer pressure, etc.) and he will come around in time.

Lord, have mercy!

Hello everyone.  Glory be to Jesus Christ!

Welcome Sandra.  Glory forever!  Smiley

He told me today that he doesn't think he needs a religion in his life right now.

I can't add too much more to what others have already said.  I think we all go through a period of rebellion and finding our own way in the world.  When I was his age, I completely stopped going to church as well.  A few years later, I converted to Islam!  Shocked  It took me awhile, but I realized just how much I need Jesus in my life.  I don't have children, but I can only imagine what you must be going through.  Please know that I will be praying for Stephan and your family.

Lord, have mercy!

Lord have mercy!

Sandra, I went through a similar phase in high school.  Just be there for him. Let him know that you love him and just give him some time to think things through. Both of you are in my prayers!

Quote
O Lord, our God and Creator, Who honor man in Your own image;
Who teach Your elect, so that those who heed Your teaching become wise; Who reveal wisdom to babes: open the heart, the mind, and the lips
of your child and servant, that he/she may receive the power of Your law,
and understand what will be taught to him/her, to the glory
of Your all-holy Name and the building-up of Your holy Church.
Grant that he/she may comprehend Your Will, and fulfill Your commandments. Deliver him/her from every oppression, evil thought, and desire. Amen.

I've known so many people in school and college who didn't seem at all religious, but now, years later, their Facebook statuses are full of Bible verses.  So don't despair.  Smiley
