I just found out today that my friends P and E have separated.  I have suspected for a few months that they had been having trouble in their marriage.  P has also been in quite a bit of pain due to an automobile roll over this past winter and he is quite depressed.  His mother has also cut off contact with him sometime in the last couple of weeks.  Some family friends of his have asked me to be especially attentive to any signs that he might be suicidal.  His father committed suicide five years ago.  All of this is so far outside my experience that I really don't know how to handle everything.  I am pretty new to Orthodoxy so I am not deeply familiar with that many of the saints.  What saints should I be requesting prayers and intercession from?

Thanks.

Has Mr. P been to counseling yet?

I don't think so.  I will be seeing him on Tuesday evening and hope to get a better understanding of how he is doing.  Any tips on how to find a skilled therapist?

Lord, have mercy!

My little Ukrainian book of saints says that those who have trouble in their marriage should ask for the intercession of the Most Holy Mother of God; of their guardian angel; of Simon Zealot, the apostle (who was, according to a legend, the bridegroom at the wedding in Cana); of holy martyr Tryphon; of holy martyrs and confessors Gurios, Samonos, and Abibas; and of wonderworkers and holy unmercenaries Cosmas and Damian.

Thank you so much!  And thank you to everyone for your prayers.  It means a lot.

Lord, have mercy on this couple!  O Lord, may they seek you and your guidance, peace and strength, for only in you is true healing and love.  Amen!

I, too, know the awful pain of seperation and divorce and it causes me sorrow when I hear of other marriages in trouble.  May our compassionate God shine His light upon them both so that they may see the Way.

Update:
I saw P the other day and he wasn't willing to talk about what is going on, so I didn't push him too much, but I told him that I would be checking in with him regularly.  I talked to E yesterday and she is close to giving up.  Apparently P has been self-medicating with illegal drugs (in addition to his prescription pain meds) since November.  He was fired from his job in March because he just stopped showing up.  Since then he has really developed a short temper with E to the point that she was frightened to be around him very much.  The good news though is that P has an appointment on Monday to see a Psychiatrist that specializes in chronic pain issues.

Lord have Mercy on your servants P. & E. as they navigate through the difficulties of their lives and grant them peace and strength to overcome their adversaries.

Amen!
