Series Finale of "24": Sufism?
« on: May 25, 2010, 09:54:06 PM »
Very surprised to find Islamic mysticism referenced in connection with Jack Bauer. :o

A leader of a fictionalized Middle-Eastern country (reminiscent of Iran) gave the president a gift box inscribed with a non-fictionalized quote from Rumi, a Sufi from 13th-century Afghanistan and Turkey. The quote was:

All religions, all this singing
One Song.

The actual poem continues thusly:

The differences are just
Illusion and vanity.
The Sun's light looks
A little different on this wall than
It does on that wall,
And a lot different on this other one,
But it's still one light.

We have borrowed these clothes,
These time and place personalities
From a light,
And when we praise,
We're pouring them back in.

If you will, you can become all flame.
Extra caritatem nulla salus.
In order to become whole, take the "I" out of "holiness".
