Dear folks,
Please say a prayer for a recently departed man. Earlier this morning, I read that my former mentor, a teacher who supervised my early steps in science, had died of cancer, at the age of 86. His name is Platon (full name Platon Hryhorovych Kostyuk, a physiologist, biophysicist, cell biologist who served as the director of the O.O. Bohomolets' Institute of Physiology of the Academy of Sciences of Ukraine since the 1970-s till his death. My very first postgraduate job was in the capacity of a Junior Research Fellow in that institution, Dec. 1984 - May 1990.)
Memory Eternal.

Thank you all! Yes, Rosehip, he was a fine man... I saw him for the first time in 1984 when he was 61, he was looking a lot younger. And last time Lesya and I saw him was in Seattle, at a seminar that he gave at the University of Washington in 1993 as a guest speaker. We both were kind of uneasy to approach him after his talk, because we were supposed to return to Ukraine in 1991, but we over-stayed our initially planned visit to the US. But he looked at us very cheerfully, smiling, and said, "you both are doing very well, just keep up the good work..."
