I once did some substitute teaching in a school that had many students from Iran. I learned two (and only two!!) sentences - how to say, "I am your friend" and "Where are we going?" I have been able to impress Farsi speakers a couple of times with the former. A few years ago, I was watching on TV some movie about the birth of Christ (sorry, no idea which one). The Magi were speaking an unknown language (English subtitles). Imagine my surprise when I heard one of them speak the second sentence that I knew!
