So we went to have a sonogram today, and it's a girl! Please pray for the health of my wife and our little unborn daughter, who we have named " Mariyam Hosanna." She is due in September. Thank you! Selam

Congrats, and prayers! EDIT--Oops, forgot to mention, I also love the name! Ditto! BTW, I suspected that "Mariyam" in English is "Mary" but I wasn't sure so I looked it up. It turns out, in Armenia it means Pomegranate, but that it is the Aramaic form of the Hebrew "Miriam"--the name of our Theotokos and meaning "Star of the Sea." In any case, congratulations to your wife and you. may the little one grow up singing the praises of her Lord and her parents!

It turns out, in Armenia it means Pomegranate, Where did you read that? The Armenian word for pomegranate (at least in my mom's dialect) is "noor," which also means light in Arabic. Armenian for Mary is Mariam (similar to the Ethiopian.) It was my great grandmother's name. It's a beautiful name.

I was thinking about sending you a PM: I was just enjoying a bottle of Armenian pomegranate wine, and was thinking of you. Didn't taste very sweet as I was hoping, but good none the less (btw, no. I didn't drink the bottle in one sitting). Many years to the little one!

I came across this definition at the first baby name site that was listed in my Google search: http://www.babynology.com/meaning-mariyam-f4.html. It is indeed a beautiful name, especially when paired with Hosanna.

Thank you brother (and thanks Rosehip and everyone else.) Yes, "Mariyam" is the Ethiopian name for the Theotokos. Selam
