I have been getting anxiety attacks. Today I thought was going to die in my office.  I have asked God to calm me down and help me deal with this.  Other people's prayers couldn't hurt... thanks.

"Lord have mercy."

Lord,
Grant your servant the peace that passes all understanding. Allow your servant to cast his burdens upon You who will gladly bear them. Grant your servant the grace to bear this Cross, and to remember that even St. Paul was was afflicted with a thorn in the flesh. Lord, if it be thy will, please bring your servant healing from this distress. Lord, grant your servant the wisdom to seek spiritual and medical help, and to trust that this help is from You.

"In the name of Mary, Lord have mercy."

Lord, have mercy!

I personally have been dealing with anxiety attacks off and on for about 12 years now.  If you'd like, you can PM me and we can compare notes and, with God's mercy, help each other deal with them.

Lord, have mercy!

Did you talk to a doctor about these attacks? You know, sometimes very simple, common medicine can help. I am a university teacher and I know that some of my students have anxiety attacks during exams, or the day before an exam. Some of these students, after seeing a doctor, began to take a minimal dose of propranolol (10 mg) once a day, and the attacks ceased. (Propranolol is a beta-blocker, one of the most common blood pressure medications.) It's not a universal remedy, but I know for sure that it helped some people. Do talk to health care professionals!

Take deep breaths while praying Lord have mercy! In a rhythmic fashion. I read somewhere that anxiety is brought on by a lack of oxygen and subconsciously people with anxiety hold there breath.

THANK YOU everyone for your caring, kind replies and prayers. It really helps. I' m not just saying so.

Today went a quite a bit better, as I took some time to breathe and go a little easier on myself. I will seek some help though, medical and spiritual. I'm still convinced God is best medicine.. personally.. but am open to whatever I need to get myself heading in the right direction. Peace..

It helped me when I started to pray "Thy will be done" (and not mine). What a liberating and calming experience, and each time I prayed it.

As someone who lives with agoraphobia I know where you're coming from.

Heard of someone who was cured of this by 'infant' neuro-developmental exercises:

http://panic-dyslexia-agoraphobia.info/through-the-net-reviews.htm

http://www.inpp.org.uk/intervention-adults-children/help-by-diagnosis/agoraphobia/

I'm not knocking Christianity as the ultimate cure-all, but maybe God allows  us to be helped in other ways

Lord have mercy!

Prayer & Bible reading is amazing for anxiety and goes great with relaxation exercises.

(btw If you choose to treat your anxiety with medication watch out for docs prescribing benzodiazepenes...they work short term only and highly addictive)
