My husband applied for a different position within the same organization yesterday. He works for the county transit company as a driver currently. The new position would be a Mon-Fri 8 am-5 pm, position that doesn't require any driving. If he is able to get this job it will be the first time he will have weekends off since before our eldest child was born over 9 years ago. (Ah! To have my husband actually be able to go to liturgy with me and the four kids!) At the moment he has a schedule change every 4 months and doesn't have a chance to have weekends off for years to come. Additionally, this position also includes a significant pay increase (this would be almost a 40% annual pay increase) and would be much better/safer for his back (driving whilst having permanent nerve damage from two herniated lumbar discs is not the most comfortable thing). Please pray that if it is the Lord's will he will get this job.
I know that the fact that he HAS a job is amazing in this current job climate. But we are both concerned that this job could end up permanently disabling him if he continues to drive 40+ hours a week for too much longer.

Excellence of character, then, is a state concerned with choice, lying in a mean relative to us, this being determined by reason and in the way in which the man of practical wisdom would determine it. Now it is a mean between two vices, that which depends on excess and that which depends on defect.

Lord have mercy. Both of us are in the midst of a very similar situation, so you have our empathy.

My husband did not even pass the initial screening for an interview. I hope and pray that there is a better position for him very soon.

May the Lord grant us all the ability to earn our daily bread, a living wage, and the time to be with our families. I will be so glad when the economy recovers. It seems everyone is hurting now.
Lord, have mercy!
