It's a conundrum.
Some would say the world does not need such monastics.
Others would say such of the world need monasticism.

A better way to ask the question might be, "Have you found a soulmate?"

I'd imagine the people who don't believe haven't found one.

No. I have a new family (parish-wise and all over the world). I live in Gods mercy and under the spirit and not the law.

Yes.  Met her on a motorcycle trip.  She came along and we drove 8000 miles together camping in the wilderness most of the time.  15 years later we've been married 14 years and have 7 children.

I believe in making them, not finding them.

This is the best answer I have ever heard to the question.

I think with the amount of people on earth, the odds are decent that there's someone out there better suited to you than the one you're with. But the real beauty of it all, I think, is that if you do it right and work at it then it doesn't matter because you don't want anyone other than the one you're with.

So I agree- they're made, not found. It's a choice, not fate.

Aaaand that's enough sentimentality out of me for one day.

SEVEN children?!?  You had better be "soul" mates for that arrangement to work.  Wink  How many bathrooms in your house?

As for soul-mates.....must they be found exclusively in marriage?  What about really close and dear friends....might they not be "soul" mates?

I imagine soul mate is one of those phrases whose exact meaning is defined by the person using it.  Wouldn't want to limit such a great phrase.

Luckily, we have an enormous house with 3 full bathrooms and a half bathroom. They are much needed! More so as the kids get older and privacy is at a premium.

Good point. I actually planned on extending the subject to that also, as friends soul mates (not in the sense of lovers).

What are soul mates for you, to those who responded positively to this question?

By that I mean even Arachne. He/She said she believes it making soul mates. I'm interested what is your deffinition of "soulmate" Arachne.
