Please pray for the victims of the plane crush in Smolensk. More that 130 members of Polish delegation to the anniversary ceremony in Katyn died. These include the president of Poland Lech Kaczynski, his wife, Polish Orthodox Archbishop Miron and others.

Russian news agencies stated that, but the 88 victims were confirmed by Polish Ministry of External Affairs. I understand that it is not only the numbers, but the high position in Polish society of the victims. Memory Eternal!

In addition to His Eminence, Archbishop Miron and the many governmental, business and military leaders, it appears that His Excellency, Bishop Tadeusz Płoski, the military vicar for Catholics in the service also perished. It is doubly sad that this tragic accident came at the moment in history that Russia and Poland were beginning to come to terms with the killing of more than 20,000 members of Poland’s elite officer corps in the same place 70 years ago by Stalinist Soviet armed forces. Lord, have mercy on all involved. I don't think anyone really blames Russian *people*. This is not the right section for this kind of discussion, so I will just very briefly say that so many Poles are genetically, genealogically connected with the people of old Rus' (the famous Polish composer Ogiński, for example, was of the Belarussian ethnicity and signed his name as Міхал Клеафас Агінскі; my own ancestors were related to a family known in Ukraine as Рeвуцькі and in Poland as Rzevuski, and it was the same family, etc.). It is not any people who are guilty; but the fact that the "black box" from the crashed plane was never shown to Poles raises a great suspicion about the involvement of the *government* (not the people!) of the Russian Federation.
