Orthodox Church services are awesome because they last until 3 in the morning. Хрїстóсъ воскрéсе! Воистину воскресе!
Also, because our priests walk around the church hall drinking beer after the service. Christ is Risen! Indeed He is Risen!

MELKAM FASIKA! (Blessed Pascha/Easter!) Eyesus Kristos is Risen! Truly He is Risen! Lent was a struggle; but that's what it's for, right? If we're not struggling, we're not growing. But today we rejoice in our Christian victory, for Our Lord had the final say. Demons scatter now. The vile serpent slithers away in shame and defeat. The tomb is empty. So partake now of the pleasures of Christ, and know that hope is the faithful companion of all those who trust in Him. Rejoice! (And keep struggling! ) Selam

Beautiful! How could anyone not want to be Orthodox? In the EOTC, we drink Tej, which is a type of wine made from fermented honey. (But we celebrated with our Greek Orthodox brethren since we couldn't make it to Atlanta.) Selam

Dear Brothers and Sisters....
Christ is Risen!
Beannachtaí na Cásca ort! Fr Ambrose
And though all feasts fully deserve their celebration and honour in these three ways, still more does this festival; for in it is the assembling together of the folk of heaven and earth; it is the festival alike of the Old and the New Testament; it is the peculiar feast of the heavenly Father; the feast of the Lord's resurrection; the feast which surpasses all others; the honoured and venerable festival of the people of heaven and earth, is this festival of Easter. For many are its wonders and marvels: in it the angel passed over the houses of the children of Israel, when he slew all the first-born of Egypt; in it the people of Israel went forth from Egypt, to go up to the land of promise; in it Christ arose from the dead, after binding the devil in hell; in it the souls of the holy and righteous of the five ages of the world came out of hell into paradise; in it will be the famous day, the Day of Judgment.
Homily XIX, 'On the Resurrection' - The Passions and the Homilies from Leabhar Breac (The Speckled Book. Ireland, circa 8th century)

Alithos Anesti I guess this is random but it was almost a stormy one for us in Sydney, the priest commented that he had conducted 40 Easter services in Oz and that this would be the first one with rain that he could recall, :Dbut it seemed the heavy rain stopped long enough for the Xristos Anesti and for most to run into cars with the Holy Light. I find it amazing that over the years no matter how stormy the weather seemed, it always cleared up enough for the Xristos Anesti. God Bless

My son showed up (who is not a Christian). I went out with the other servers to help light the candles of the congregation. I started to light the first candle in the crowd and look up and it was him... Pretty cool moment.

Truly he is risen!
This was not only my first Pascha, but my first time at my new parish, my first time at a Greek parish, and my first service with my youngest brother, who is also journeying into Orthodoxy and it was his first Pascha as well. A very blessed evening, even if we did get out an hour before everyone else, apparently.
The Agape service this morning was beautiful as well.

Xristos Anesti! Alithos o Kyrios!!!
The Lord's resurrection enlighten us all and give us joy, peace, victory, and glory.
Glory to His holy resurrection! We worship His resurrection on the third day!
O great mystery of salvation! Man was banished from the state of grace because he wanted to be God whereas Man was saved because God wanted to and became Man up to the point of death!
O you Jews, come and join us to celebrate the Lord's Pascha because the true Temple of God was re-built by God Himself on the third day of its destruction!!!

You haven't endured until you've hosted the feast for a couple of dozen hungry souls descending on your abode after the Paschal services at a truly ungodly hour of the morning. My beloved and I didn't get to bed until 9am on Easter Day, after getting up at 5am on Holy Saturday.

My 1st Pascha too, just got home from our festial banquet---was absolutely wonderful!
Service was great, the weather held up nicely (by God's grace), & it was just amazing to see all the people.
Also, as a side blessing, we found out that we are -close- to acquiring some land to build us a bigger church! Glory to God for that!
Very very blessed indeed!

Christ is Risen!
Just wanted to add my voice as I haven't been on here much lately but was thinking fondly of this place and all the people who helped me understand Orthodox traditions that seemed very strange to me this time last year. Happy Easter to you all.

What do you mean, 3 in the morning? We didn't finish until 3:52! I love it!!!
Christ is Risen! Rejoice!
3:52? What a bunch of wusses. We had a group of guys outside the parish hall smoking pipes and cigars until about 4:30. Khristos voskrese! Voistinu voskrese! Now THAT is my kind of Church! Christ is Risen! Unfortunately, no Cognac or Scotch, since my church forbids the consumption of distilled liquors on parish property for liability reasons. Oh, well. The pipe-weed was good. Made me feel like a regular old hobbit.

My son showed up (who is not a Christian). I went out with the other servers to help light the candles of the congregation. I started to light the first candle in the crowd and look up and it was him... Pretty cool moment.
Glory to God! Today was the first time in seven years that all of my cousins that I grew up with were in Church together at the same time. The last time of the six of us were in Church together was at my Aunt Sophie's funeral 7 years ago. (May her Memory be Eternal!) Although two of said cousins were baptised into the Church, and have attended Easter and Christmas over the years, they weren't raised in the faith, as their mother is a non-observant Jew. Today they came to Church because their family wasn't doing anything to mark the holiday, and they knew they had to do something to commorate the day, so they came to Church. Glory to God for all things!

Christ is risen! Just wanted to share a beautiful rendition of the Evlogitaria/Blessed art Thou of the Resurrection, with an excellent matching of visual icons to the lyrics. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N9aFb7iOTtI

Indeed, He is Risen! Wow, so much symbolism! The article is also educational in that the author wrote that, "The actual moment of the Resurrection, when Christ rose from the grave, was not to be depicted in Orthodox iconography. Only from the late 16th century onwards this event starts to appear on icons under the influence of the West."
