Axion Estin - Which Tone Did the Archangel Sing In?
« on: March 21, 2010, 11:41:09 PM »
I remember reading somewhere of a tradition in the Protaton of the Holy Mountain of singing the Hymn "Axion Estin" in the same tone which the Archangel Gabriel first sang it, but I can't remember which tone it was or where I read it. Does anyone know?

The "Ancient Melody" is in Tone 2 but then again there was a period where everything seems to be in Tone 2. I have never seen any music called the original melody for Axion Estin.

The original melody as sung by the Archangel:

"And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us..."
