What on earth is happening in this video?
The Armenians are asserting their right to be there for services. Every year the Greeks try to block them from conducting services, because should they ever back down and walk away, then they would lose their rights at the site forever.
It's easy for us to turn our noses up halfway around the world, but these rules are based on an old "Status Quo" that everyone abides by from the Ottoman period. Asserting one's rights is necessary to retain them if they are challenged. Nobody understands the context; everyone just sees the fighting and automatically gets to feel superior.
Oh, I've been there. It would serve us right if al-Hakim did destroy the place.
Btw, the Romanian does explain that it is because of the status quo rules which cannot be changed.

Question a friend, perhaps he did not do it; but if he did anything so that he may do it no more.
A hasty quarrel kindles fire,
and urgent strife sheds blood.
If you blow on a spark, it will glow;
if you spit on it, it will be put out;
and both come out of your mouth
