Oriental Orthodox Sermons and Lectures
« on: February 10, 2010, 10:38:32 PM »
This is a thread for links to online sermons and lectures by Oriental Orthodox clergy, professors and other knowledgeable persons.  The sermons and lectures may be written, audio, or video.  Written sermons may be copied and pasted, but please also provide links to their sources.

Please do not post bare links.  In other words, a post with a link in it should have some sort of introduction to the link, telling what it is about and who is giving the sermon or lecture.  If the link is to a page with many sermons or lectures, then give some information about the page, such as what church it is from, etc.

Peace to all,

I hope that these are helpful and informative. Perhaps the internal links may also be resourceful about the Malankara Orthodox Church of India. I found it very interesting that our Sister Orthodox Church of India has established themselves in Saudia Arabia. Then again, I'm ignorant of any other denomination that may be operating OPENLY in S. Arabia.

Excuse me if this doesn't fit the topic:

http://www.malankaraorthodox.tv/Video/videos.htm [scroll midway down the page & you'll find English, but you will see the beauty of the Malankara Orthodox Church, India and Her peoples]

http://www.orthodoxchurch.in/ [See video to right of page]

They are not up to much, but I have started converting some of my sermons and talks to mp3 format.

I shall be adding them to my local Church site, here...

These first files do include a lecture on the origins of Christianity in the British Isles, which I gave at St Mark's Coptic Orthodox Church, Kensington, and a sermon I preached at the Coptic Orthodox Church in Bromley.

Below is a video link to a lecture I gave titled: "The Incarnation of the Beatitudes: The ‘Saint’ as a Model of Orthodox Life". It is quite 'ecumenical' (sorry if that offends some!  ;D) in that I quote from various Eastern and Oriental Fathers, ancient and modern. The lecture starts at 4:18 on the recording and has some intermissions throughout. I have the complete presentation as a PowerPoint if anyone is interested (which includes the quotes and some diagrams not shown in the video).

God bless,

Selam everyone :)

Thank you so very much , Reverend Fathers, and all here that are sharing great treasure with us.So beautiful, great edifying wisdom, even the ones I could not understand I got the blessing of hearing the voices of the holy fathers! I thank God for everyone here!
To God be the Glory in all things! Amen!

Only pray for me, that God would give me both inward and outward strength, that I may not only speak, but truly will; and that I may not merely be called a Christian, but really be found to be one. St.Ignatius of Antioch.Epistle to the Romans.

The Call Of The Orthodox Youth Today
by Fr. George Dragas
at St. Mary Coptic Orthodox Church in East Brunswick, NJ (http://www.saint-mary.net/)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uOEF_aGdf58

Fr. George Dragas is the Professor of Patristics at Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology and arguably the greatest scholar on a Saint very dear to us, St. Athanasius the Apostolic.

Of course Fr. George is not OO, but I posted this because its an incredible lecture and particularly in the Q&A Fr. George has some important things to say about the relationship between the OO & EO.  The video is about 1.5 hrs long.

Here is a sermon by Fr. Peter on the words "Ask and it shall be given."

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-egSntcdFlE&feature=plcp

Among other things, he brings up the "Name It and Claim It" movement, which has become quite popular today.  This is a good response to that movement.

Starting at about five minutes into this video, Fr. Daniel Findikyan lectures on the diversity of practices and customs between the various Oriental Orthodox Churches.

Thanks for sharing this. Somehow I missed it when it first came out.

If you pay attention to what he's saying at 3:10, five seconds later, as he's talking about light and brightness, the sun breaks through the clouds and comes pouring through the altar windows.  Pretty cool, God!

There is a lecture by Fr. Peter on "the references to Christ outside of the New Testament from the earliest times."  The lecture is called "Evidence for Jesus."

Podcast about Prayer:

http://orthodoxfaith.podbean.com/2013/07/03/beginning-with-prayer/

Quote
In this audio lecture from the Discovering Orthodoxy catchesis, Father Peter Farrington considers the differences between the texts of our prayers, and actually doing prayer and becoming prayers ourselves. The Fathers of the Church give us some instruction on having an aim for our spirituality.

Not to be a wet blanket, but St. Mark's in DC, which is featured prominently on the "Orthodox Sermons" Youtube channel linked above, has recently been the subject of some controversy regarding its practices and theology. I am not taking sides in any argument, but it has been brought to my attention that HH Pope Tawadros II has sent a committee to visit the DC-area churches to investigate complaints against them. The recommendations of the committee and HH's decision have not been made public, but the fact that this step has been taken is no doubt a serious matter.

Good for you, GODlovesme.  I recommend you let H.G. Anba Serapion know.
Worship is theology, so a church which brings Evangelical and Charismatic "praise & worship" into its corporate life is no longer Orthodox.  It is, by definition, heterodox.  Those "Orthodox" leaders who make theological arguments for the incorporation of heteropraxis into the life of the Church are heretics.

The Sermon of the Feast of the Resurrection by our parish priest Fr. Abraham Wassef.  I think this is a nice sermon to listen to when you get the time.  It's a bit lengthy, probably about 25-30 min.
