Use of the kamilavka by a Subdeacon.
« on: February 06, 2010, 07:11:36 PM »
Is it permitted in any of the Orthodox or Byzantine Catholic Churches?

What do you mean by kamilavka, that term is used for a variety of hats in different traditions?

i would guess the answer depended on jurisdiction..eo or oo..?  you mileage may vary..however at the end of the day it is just a hat!  some bishops forbid any clergy from wearing clerical hats.

That kind of kamilavka.

The late (married) deacon at the OCA cathedral had one.
Question a friend, perhaps he did not do it; but if he did anything so that he may do it no more.
A hasty quarrel kindles fire,
and urgent strife sheds blood.
If you blow on a spark, it will glow;
if you spit on it, it will be put out;
                           and both come out of your mouth

That kind of kamilavka.

This would not be appropriate for a Subdeacon to wear since it comes from the Russian tradition and only a proto or Arch Deacon can be given a blessing to wear a red hat like this.

What about a black one?

Unless they are a tonsured monastic or a Deacon, Priest or Bishop then they should not be wearing a hard hat if they are following the Russian tradition.

What kind of hats do deacons wear in the Serbian tradition?
