St. Spyridon of Tremithus
« on: December 29, 2003, 12:25:19 PM »
I just completed a small book on the life of St. Spyridon of Tremithus by St. John of Kronstadt Press.  It was a good book.  I knew very little of the saint before reading it and I was very impressed by his life and accomplishments.  Some of the miracles that occurred after his death were remarkable.

Newport, RI,  great town.  When I was in the Navy I had two assignments at the naval base there, one for 8 months and the other for 18 months.

Sorry, put this topic in the wrong room.  Should be under Reviews rather than Christian News.

That was when Fr. Peter Balkas was the priest at St. Spyridon's...he only brought St. Spyridon's slipper out in the glass case to be venerated on the Feast of St. Spyridon....our new priest takes it out of the case to be venerated.

This last Vespers of St. Spyridon we were doubly blessed...one of the visiting priests from CT brought a vial of myrhh which flowed from an icon of St. Nicholas and annointed everyone before they venerated St. Spyridon's slipper.

Looking for some info about a miracle he allegedly performed.

I read somewhere he basically resurrected a woman, asked her where is the money someone had been looking for and then put her to death again.

Who was she, who needed that money and what for, was that even true?

edit:

I just now noticed in Reviews and is about a book, not him  :/

The woman in question was his daughter Irene who had been entrusted with the gold ornaments of another woman for safe-keeping.  The owner wanted the gold ornaments back, but his daughter had died.  St. Spyridon spoke to his daughter to find the whereabouts of the gold.  And she spoke back to him revealing the place where the gold ornaments were kept.

Very convenient. Thanks.
