I hope this is the right place for this question. I am confused after looking at churches online. I was trying to find the closest Orthodox church to us. There was an OCA mission church nearby but it seems to be gone and the priest now serving in Portland. But another website came up in the search that I had not seen before. http://www.theotokosofolympia.com/  In looking at their website, I recognized the nuns in the pictures as the nuns that came to the Byzantine Catholic Church we were attending and knew them to be of a monastery nearby. Sure enough, the monastery address and the address of the Orthodox church are the same. So I guess my question is if anyone knows if the monastery became Orthodox or if this is some kind of joint parish? Any clarification would be wonderful as we're looking forward to starting to attend an Orthodox church.

Thank you.

The site seems to indicate that they are a part of the Antiochian diocese, but if you know for a fact that the nuns were communing at an Eastern Roman Catholic church that is not Orthodox then I would avoid the place like the plague.

Perhaps you could email them and ask for clarification?

I suppose I could email or call and ask. I saw the church is Antiochian, and thought I knew for a fact that the nuns are Byzantine Catholic. http://www.hrmonline.org/home?page=1 It confused me very much when I saw they have the same address...

Contacting them is a good idea. Thanks.

Edited for grammar.

That nuns are on the pictures only. Maybe they only have friendly relations with that Antiochian Mission and nothing more? Or the Antiochians rent the place form that Catholic Monastery?

I would avoid this parish as well. I didn't see it in the search results on http://orthodoxyinamerica.org, which is a directory of all the canonical jurisdictions in North America. There seem to be several options in the Olympia/Tacoma area that are canonical, so I would check those out instead.

Hmm, I may have spoken too soon. It is indeed listed on the Antiochian directory: http://www.antiochian.org/parishes/diocesedirectory/Diocese+of+New+York+and+Washington%2C+D.C.

Very strange that the parish is under the Diocese of New York though.

Edited to fix the link.

I didn't think of that, I'm sorry.

I wonder what precipitated this transfer between SCOBA Jurisdictions?  Did this parish have anything to do with the ex-Jerusalem Patriarchate parishes in USA?
