Peter - you can always find humour at the expense of poor Americans who have to labour with English. What is the pointe of gloating ...and yes I usually detest poor grammer, but my spelling is simply horrid.

Re: American Standard English...my undrstanding is that in Britain as well as the States, language skills are an indicator and a reflection of status. Perhaps the difference is that in the States, the media tends to draw on various communities for interviews, or for inspiration for drama, etc., while what we see from Britain is not the English of poor Brits in the ghetto, but the polished English of aristocrats. That said...ain't nothin' wrong with my English.
