This is just something I stumbled upon and wanted to share. It is about a movie in production, titled "Nicholas of Myra". My church is called saint Nikolaos so I will definitely try to see this move, no matter how much it distorts history. The movie's website certainly piques my interest in the final product. I do want to see it. I haven't looked at everything on the website yet, but I did find this: "Ultimately, the director based the final design of the bishop’s costume on two main conclusions that he drew from history. 'The Bishop of Myra certainly wouldn’t have been dressed in ornate garments as depicted in artwork of the Middle Ages,' noted Hartke. 'His vestments would have been basic and of Judaic influence -- the evolution of which can be seen in contemporary Coptic and Greek Orthodox culture. Secondly, keeping true to the color red was not as much of a stretch as I thought. Historically, red was a prominent color in Greco-Roman society. Adopted by Christians, it became a reminder of The Christ’s sacrifice (or the blood of Christ) and representative of all willing martyrs.'" The director does seem to be at least somewhat informed about Orthodoxy, both its history and its current practices. |

Mel Gibson trumpeted loud and long that his Passion of the Christ was the ultimate in historical and scriptural accuracy, yet there were a number of howlers that even a Sunday school kid couldn't miss. Don't hold your breath on Nicholas of Myra, folks .... |

Well, if its anything like the movie, THE NATIVITY STORY, we can hope.
I'm satisfied as long as the historically accurate kung-fu is present.  Even if the movie makes big historical mistakes it will still achieve that viewers get an awareness about st Nicholas and that santa claus is not ALL myth. |

What was that like? I tend to shy away from all biblical productions lately. A family member had one series, not sure who it was put out by, that was embarrassing to say the least. The one on Jesus started out with Jesus being a real chick-magnet; Mary (or Martha) of Bethany being very attracted to him. That was enough for us to have us rushing for the off switch. |
