Just a reminder that Sunday, the 3rd of January, is the birthday of J. R. R. Tolkien and it is the occasion of the traditional toast. With whatever beverage one enjoys, the toast is "The Professor!"

Here's a link to the Tollkien Society's page about this year's toast:

It is J.R.R. Tolkien's birthday today. To mark it here is the traditional toast with a beverage of your choice:

Ho! Ho! Ho! to the bottle I go
To heal my heart and drown my woe.
Rain may fall and wind may blow,
And many miles be still to go,
But under a tall tree I will lie,
And let the clouds go sailing by.

The Professor!

I sit beside the fire and think
of all that I have seen,
of meadow-flowers and butterflies
in summers that have been;

Of yellow leaves and gossamer
in autumns that there were,
with morning mist and silver sun
and wind upon my hair.

I sit beside the fire and think
of how the world will be
when winter comes without a spring
that I shall never see.

For still there are so many things
that I have never seen:
in every wood in every spring
there is a different green.

I sit beside the fire and think
of people long ago,
and people who will see a world
that I shall never know.

But all the while I sit and think
of times there were before,
I listen for returning feet
and voices at the door.

Today would be the 121st birthday of J.R.R. Tolkien  Would that make it "twelvety-first"?

Whatever the case may be in that regard, it is time for the Toast to
