This has to have been asked before, but...

Why do some jurisdictions insist on converts being re-baptized? I can understand those who didn't use a Trinitarian formula in the sacrament, but otherwise, it seems to be a violation of Nicea I, which states that baptism by heretics is still valid baptism. Even in cases of sprinking or smearing by Presbyterians and some Anglicans, what about emergency cases?

The Serbian Orthodox Church baptizes all converts, non-Christians and heretics.

It contains some extraneous stuff and doesn't directly address the issue of why various jurisdictions have different practices but it does get into the underlying understanding and canonical rulings from which the variations flow so it might give you a start to narrow your focus. And like Fr. Anastasios I have to ask 'what canon of Nicea?'
