I was reading Butler's Lives of the Saints earlier tonight, and I noticed that tomorrow, December 8, is the Feast of the Immaculate Conception for the Latin Church. Later this evening, I looked at my Orthodox calendar (New Calendar) to see what was tomorrow, and I noticed that December 9, not tomorrow, is the feast day commemorating the conception by righteous St. Anna of the Theotokos. Is there any reason why the conception is celebrated on different days?

Conception of the Mother of God - 9 December
Nativity of the Mother of God - 8 September.
That is one day short of the nine month period. I have read somewhere that it was done deliberately as a symbolical way of saying that only God is perfect.
The same eccentric one day off enumeration is seen with Saint John the Baptist
Conception- 23 September
Nativity - 24 June

Ambrose's - the difference in date is explained by the statement each group is making viz a viz Mary's conception. |

All I have to say is that I went to Mass last night for the feast of the Immaculate Conception and it was beautiful. I love the way our Priest celebrates the Mass so reverently and how the choir selects traditional Catholic music. Of course, the well know version of the "Ave Maria" was sung.
