Since we have lots of people who ask questions targeted toward a specific field of study, I thought we could try and get an idea as to what kind of specialties are represented.

Please - advanced degrees only (not HS/equiv.), and major fields only.

There appears to be a distinction between Computer Engineering and generic Engineering.  I checked the latter.

Wrapping up my BS (Hons. Spec.) in Theoretical Computer Science, then hopefully off to grad school in the same field.

One request.  Can you change Computer Programming / Engineering to Computer Science / Engineering.  Computer Programming is a rather small subfield of Computer Science.  Smiley

I don't even know why I did that, especially considering I was almost a Comp Sci major in college.

You should add Greek and Latin (Classics), the Queen of all subjects and the largest and most important faculty at all of the original European Universities (going back to the University of Constantinople).

Also, you should add Law, another one of the still extant ancient faculties.

B.A. French & Spanish. The university department was at the time actually called Romance Studies; they've since changed it to "Department of French, Spanish, and Italian", and I did take a couple of courses in Italian, too, so I guess I can claim a B.A. in Romance Studies  Cheesy

BS in Biology (minor is Psych)
BS in Marketing (minor in Advertising)
Diploma in Programming (post-Grad)

Work in IT as an Infrastructure Analyst (hired in as a programmer, in 10 years haven't written one line of code, though!).

I studied one thing...and got work in a completely different field.

BA in history and working on my Master's in the same.

I'm studying American Indians (especially in the military and Progressive Era). I'd like to go for a doctorate and become a professor someday.

I like cultural history and occasional dabbling in political and intellectual history when it connects (and that is fairly often).

I would spend $50 for a joke that I can frame and hang on my office wall. I am thinking that the "Ph.D. in Biblical Studies" for $125 might be a better deal. I could get a student loan in order to slowly pay off the difference ($75). The cheapest class ring at $368 is beyond my means.

I have a degree in meteorology which changes how many times I think warmly of it. Right now I'm at 55 times.

That reminds me: I was headed to my department a few days ago when I saw in the elevator a flyer for some sort of seminar course or something on the semantics of "YOLO". It had questions like "Why is YOLO said to excuse irresponsible behavior?" and others that I can't remember because I blacked out for a while.

As someone asked earlier, where's Education on the list?

AB*     Major: Special Education  Minor: Elementary Education
JD**   Law

(*That's how you can tell that it's from a Jesuit university; the degree sounds so much more impressive in its Latin form Cheesy )
(""Not from a Jesuit school; apparently, they just liked the sound of it in Latin   Tongue  )

Since we have lots of people who ask questions targeted toward a specific field of study, I thought we could try and get an idea as to what kind of specialties are represented.

Please - advanced degrees only (not HS/equiv.), and major fields only.

Honorary degree in First Contact Studies from Starfleet Academy.

It's a silly topic, but I'm glad that they're holding a serious discussion about the ramifications of this new word/movement.

I'm reminded of the Lonely Island song, "YOLO," in which the phrase is interpreted in a completely different way (don't do risky things because you only live once!).

Very interesting. It seems like many people here study the humanities.

There are two reasons for that: a) because they are human and want to try to begin to understand humanity; or b) they are aliens and want to try to begin to understand humanity.
