Bumping for one of my favorite saints, Barbara! St. John is okay too. ;)
It's common knowledge that you secretly want to be born in early 17th century Russia.  As a serf or a royal, I know not.  Chances are serf.

But I hear there's nothing he can't answer.
Blessed Nazarius practiced the ascetic life. His clothes were tattered. He wore his shoes without removing them for six years.

That's funny, as yesterday I had my presentation about my licenciate thesis - and it's about st. John of Damascus - in Arabic, and I hadn't choosen the date. I think st. John really helped me, as it was just second time for me to talk so lenthy in Arabic  (and first time alone) ;)

i found out that for the Coptic Church, he is a pretty important hymnographer for us too!

St. Barbara, a student of Origen!  When I knew that, she was bumped up to one of my favorites as well.

Vain existence can never exist, for "unless the LORD builds the house, the builders labor in vain." (Psalm 127)

If the faith is unchanged and rock solid, then the gates of Hades never prevailed in the end.
