How Hitler's Nazi propaganda machine tried to take Christ out of ChristmasBy Mail Foreign Service Last updated at 8:04 AM on 18th November 2009 Nazi Germany celebrated Christmas without Christ with the help of swastika tree baubles, 'Germanic' cookies and a host of manufactured traditions, a new exhibition has shown.
The way the celebration was gradually taken over and exploited for propaganda purposes by Hitler's Nazis is detailed in a new exhibition.
Rita Breuer has spent years scouring flea markets for old German Christmas ornaments.
She and her daughter Judith developed a fascination with the way Christmas was used by the atheist Nazis, who tried to turn it into a pagan winter solstice celebration. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/worldnews/article-1228630/How-Hitlers-Nazi-propaganda-machine-tried-Christ-Christmas.html?printingPage=trueMODERATION: Excerpt of article added to make post compliant with forum policy on naked links...

Men may dislike truth, men may find truth offensive and inconvenient, men may persecute the truth, subvert it, try by law to suppress it. But to maintain that men have the final power over truth is blasphemy, and the last delusion. Truth lives forever, men do not. -- Gustave Flaubert

Wow! That's gotta be a new record. I've never seen Godwin's Law come into play on the very first post of a new thread.

Not knowing what Godwin's Law is. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Godwin's_law"Godwin's Law... is a humorous observation made by Mike Godwin in 1990 which has become an Internet adage. It states: "As a Usenet discussion grows longer, the probability of a comparison involving Nazis or Hitler approaches." A topic about Nazi's cannot be a victim of Godwin's Law.

It can be when Robb's using this to show how evil those persons are who want to take Christ out of Christmas. "The Nazis did it, therefore it must be evil." That's called argumentum ad Hitlerum, or just "playing the Hilter card."

Robb's using this to show how evil those persons are who want to take Christ out of Christmas. I'm not sure that Robb actually said this. Its a very interesting article BTW, and the photos of historical Nazi "winter solstice tree decorations" are hilarious (especially the bomb and hand grenade!). I also found the swastika cookie-cutter just the ultimate in tacky!
