I was going to make a "What's your favorite sports movie?" thread, but when I started thinking of a list of movies, I realised that I'd have to list two dozen movies if I did a poll like that, so I decided to just do one sport at a time. So... what's your favorite baseball movie? As for me, the only one of the movies listed that I own on DVD is Brewster's Millions, but I'm still going to vote for Sandlot. I really enjoyed that movie, and it has a strong nostalgia factor to it for me.

I voted Field of Dreams. Please don't crucify me.
Yes, yes, I'm a rank sentimentalist. But so was Rick Blaine.

^ Not at all. You and I and one other are apparently in the majority so far.
I nominate James Earl Jones for best actor ever.

What about "The Natural" or "Eight Men Out"?

Indeed! My favorite baseball movie, The Natural, isn't even on the list.

Sorry! Before I submitted the poll I went to wiki to see if there were any other movies I should add, but they have a list of about 70 baseball movies on there, and obviously I couldn't add them all, so I just settled for the ones that had first came to mind. I also apologize for not putting an option for "other," that's not the first time I made that mistake in the last couple weeks.

If you want, I can edit your poll to include an option named "Other - Please specify."

My husband and I play this "What's the Greatest (insert sport here) Movie?" all the time. Field of Dreams got my vote - I love JEJ's soliloquy in the bleachers, and I've always felt an affinity for Shoeless Joe Jackson, since my grandad played semi-pro baseball in the textile mill league in the South. The Natural is a close second however. And Ty Cobb really was a jerk, but maybe it had something to do with his mother shooting his father. By accident.
Did anyone mention "It Happens Every Spring" or "Damn Yankees"? ( :laugh:Or am I giving away my age?)

Hmmm. In order: Major League, Bull Durham, the Natural, Field of Dreams. The others that I've seen fall into the category of "like 'em, don't love 'em." Except for ML 3 - awful.

Considering how much I hate baseball, (especially since some of my favorite shows have been preempted to show us these snoozers) I do like those movies that portrayed baseball as a game rather than as a financial transaction. I voted for the Natural, a favorite of mine for a very long time.
And while we're on the subject of baseball: Yankees suck.
