At another forum that I'm a part-time participant at there is a tradition of posting scantily clad women whenever you reach certain posting milestones. I don't know why, that's just the tradition. I didn't think that'd go over too well here, so instead of "hot womenz" I bring you some of my favorite pictures of church architecture...

And for a modern Church, here's St. Innocent Mission (OCA) in Macon Georgia...

Very nice. I do like the last one. I think it is great that they built a Georgian style church in the state of Georgia; seems appropriate.

Congrats on 5000+ posts, Asteriktos! And I too had noticed Αριστοκλής' silence of late and hope that he is okay.

Everyone certainly has differing tastes, and it's interesting that you find these buildings attractive, because I find them rather cold, ominous and barn-like.

Indeed we differ! I saw firm, clean lines, an imposing structure that has strong rock-like characteristics. Even the smaller one is a model of simplicity.

LOL. I know-I'm sure I'm the odd one out! I prefer the fairytale-like wooden churches of the Carpathians and the gold cupolas and fanciful designs of the churches of the  Slavic countries to these structures which appear to me ominous and forbidding.

Hey, I was in 10th place before the OP stormed out of nowhere and reclaimed his spot.  Now I'm trying to slow down my posting average to 8, maybe 7 posts per day.

With his 500 post per month average, he'll be with the leaders in no time.   Grin

So who's going to be the first to 15,000?

While I'm the closest to the mark, ozgeorge has a higher average than I and, thus, is more likely to attain that first.
Now, first to 20,000 is a bit more open, as we have a few people with astronomical posting averages over the last 2 years.

Just realised that I passed the 8,000 post mark recently. What I find incredible is that it took me 7 years to get to 5,000 posts, and then less than 13 months to get an additional 3,000 posts  Shocked Anyway, without further ado, for my 8,019th post I bring you some slightly more unique Orthodox Church architecture...

Only US citizens are allowed to watch that.

Those outside of America are being barred from watching a clip from Dodgeball, one of the greatest movies of the last decade? Is outrage! Here's the dialogue from the scene...

Peter La Fleur: Alliteration aside, I'll take my chances in the tournament.
White Goodman: Yeah, you will take your chances.
Peter La Fleur: I know. I just said that.
White Goodman: I know you just said that.
Peter La Fleur: Okay, I'm not sure where you're going with this.
White Goodman: Well, I'm not sure where you're going with this.
Peter La Fleur: That's what I said.
White Goodman: That's what I'm saying to you.
Peter La Fleur: All right.
White Goodman: ...Touché.

According to the time tracker thingy I've been on oc.net 194 days, 12 hours and 10 minutes. I don't know how long that's been kept track of, though, nor what exactly they are measuring. Also, I usually leave oc.net on even if I'm using another browser window to do something, or sometimes not at the computer at all, so I don't know how much time I've actually spent here. Apparently I average 3.67 posts per day since I registered in 2002...

For my 13,000th post I bring you... St. Paul of Thebes, the first Christian hermit...

Icon of St. Paul of Thebes...

St. Anthony visiting St. Paul of Thebes...

Info from wikipedia...

The legend according to Jerome's Vitae Patrum (Vita Pauli primi eremitae) is that, as a young man, Paul fled to the Theban desert during the persecution of Decius and Valerianus around 250 AD. He lived in the mountains of this desert in a cave near a clear spring and a palm tree, the leaves of which provided him with raiment and the fruit of which provided him with his only source of food till he was 43 years old, when a raven started bringing him half a loaf of bread daily. He would remain in that cave for the rest of his life, almost a hundred years. Jerome further related the meeting of Anthony the Great and Paul, when the latter was aged 113. They conversed with each other for one day and one night. When Anthony next visited him, Paul was dead. Anthony clothed him in a tunic which was a present from Athanasius of Alexandria and buried him, with two lions helping to dig the grave.

There is also an orthodoxwiki article which is more detailed, or you can read St. Jerome's original work here.

You'd have to post one every 9.6 seconds by my calculations (that's allowing you a full week).  I think your keyboard would start to smoke after a while.  Grin

It is apparently part of the Neamț Monastery in Romania. Here's a pic of the interior:

....and on my 5000th post, I would like to introduce you to my mother!  A sweeter woman you will never meet!  Smiley

This is from a few days ago on Mother's Day.

While most mom's were having brunch in some fancy restaurant, mine was patiently wheeling around the church hall in her wheelchair, waiting for me, as I cleaned the kitchen after cooking and serving lunch after Divine Liturgy.  Love you, mom!
