Just watched We Were Soldiers again this weekend.  I love this movie.  I might get fragged for this, but I still think that We Were Soldiers stands up to Platoon or FMJ in quality.  It's interesting watching a movie where the "gooks" are treated as human beings for a change instead of some faceless antagonist.  I'd love to see a VN version of Letters From Iwo Jima.

Also saw Dark Skies in the theatre.  Not bad.  Not great, but it wasn't torture to watch.

And we saw the Rocky Horror Picture show as well.  First time for the GF.  For my brother and I, I think this was time  number 2487.

Got to sit through Battleship because the stepdaughter wanted to sigh over Alexander Skarsgard. (Her reaction when he was offed halfway through? Priceless. Cheesy) It wasn't nearly as bad as people made it sound like. No ropey CGI, and the moment where they actually play Battleship to locate the alien ship is rather cute. All in all, a decent B-movie.

Afterwards, I was rewarded with a chance to watch Stardust once more. Grin

Collision Earth. About a magnetic event at the sun that pushes mercury out of its orbit and puts it in a collision course with earth. Fairly boring, considering it was the end of the world.

All Star Superman was kind of disappointing, but I suppose that's inevitable considering how fantastic the source material was. They simply didn't have time to get all my favorite bits in.

Tried watching The Cabin in the Woods just now. Got through about half an hour before I had to turn it off. I just kept feeling uncomfortable for some reason, and certainly not in the way they want you to feel uncomfortable. Guess I'll go read...

Unremarkable. The Prince of Persia is better in that respect (and as a movie too).

Agreed. I really enjoyed it. I think it would have made quite a bit more money if only it had been marketed properly and maybe released in the summer.

Just watched Iron Sky. Apparently after World War 2 nazis (including Hitler) traveled to the dark side of the moon and built up a spaceship army thing, planning on eventually invading earth. Fairly dumb movie, as one might have expected. It was a corny comedy in addition to being a corny sci-fi movie. *shrugs*  The only good part about the movie was the cute lead actress Julia Dietze...

I watched The Way last night with my boys. Good movie! It was refreshing to be able to watch an egaging, thought provoking movie with my sons that wasn't full of profanity, gratuitous sex, and such nonsense. It wasn't the greatest movie ever, but it's definitely worth watching. I was pleasantly surprised. And my boys like it too!

I watched last night the full-length television movie Bride of the Incredible Hulk (a.k.a. The Incredible Hulk, Season 2, Episode 1: "Married"), with Mariette Hartley. Possibly the best, most human episode of the old Bixby/Ferrigno series.

Iron Sky was pretty much what I was excepting. Not anything brilliant (except the idea of moon nazis and all the cliches) but not anything that bad either.

I saw The Call with aging Halle Barry last weekend.  The hallmark of any good suspense film is constantly thinking (or shouting at the screen) "YOU STUPID [EXPLETIVE] [EXPLETIVE]! DON'T DO THAT!!!!"  I think this film excelled using that criteria.

A lesser-known religious-themed movie "Brother White".

I didn't have very high expectation, but I ended up thinking it was pretty good (possibly b/c I didn't have high expectations).

Has anyone else seen that?

I was on the couch last night while my wife watched a movie. It was called Killers, I think, and was a rom-com featuring Ashton Kutcher. I did my best to not watch it, but I couldn't help watching bits of it, simply because of the noise. It was bad! I mean, really, really bad. I actually find it depressing how much talent and money and resources get poured into these shallow, cliche' two hour time-wasters. Bad.

We caught The Amazing Spider-Man yesterday afternoon on TV and let it run for the young one, who is a superhero fan. I was deeply unimpressed, myself. The best thing about it was Martin Sheen.

I have been slowly watching Bratya Karamazovy with actors Sergei Gorobchenko and Aleksandr Golubev.  It is a film version of the Brothers Karamazov made in Russia.  The language is Russian, but it has English subtitles.  It has its negative criticisms like any other film based on a book, but I wanted to see it through a Russian filmmaker's eyes, since the novel was also written by one.  Lips Sealed
