Speaking of movies, Peter O'Toole has died. He was 81.

Rest in peace.  :'(

Once Bitten

Haven't seen this in years. Cornier than I remember, which I mean in the best possible way.

I've watched this several more times in the last week and am enjoying it so much I'm going to get it on DVD. Very so-bad-it's-good.

Maximum Risk (1996) Van Damme. Movies that have absolutely nothing to do with reality are very entertaining.

Just recently got around to watching The World's End. Great movie. And I was really glad to see at least one of the streaming services had Scrooged.

The Horde on Netflix streaming. A 2012 Russian film about St. Alexis of Moscow and his mission to cure the Tatar queen of blindness. I'm only 15 minutes in but so far it's great.

We got the Harry Potter boxed set as a family gift at Christmas, so we can finally watch them all in order (we had all the singles, but some have gone missing). Currently on Prisoner of Azkaban, which is one of my favourites.

Watched American Hustle twice, i do not think I have seen better acting or such an amazing bunch of  actors that just work so well together.just my opinion, I did not even know it was christian bale until the credits went up. The storyline was so so, but it was so well put together. Music was spot on.

Watching the Exorcist with Linda Blair right now .

Great movie. Terrifying.

Selam

I do not think they will ever make a more terrifying movie like this one, not sure if it is true, but it rings true that's what makes it so scary, I watched it the first time when I was 6 years old, left an impression.

So I finished it. I would not, in the end, call it a great movie but certainly lots of enjoyable things in it. Anyone with Netflix streaming, give it a shot.

I just watched Legend of the Guardians: the Owls of Ga'Hoole.
I think I agre with the critics. Visually speaking, it was amazing. However, there was something about the story that bugged me. Many of the scenes seemed incredibly rushed, which makes me kind of sad, since I think the story could have turned out well, had they just allowed it to breathe some more.

It's a 15-book series. I bet they were trying to cram as much as possible into the film.

Yeah, the film is based on the first three books in the series.

Weird, I have no idea why that posted. Anyway, he chose about 17 films to survey. One was Ghost Dog. How this weird old French dude who taught at an Austrian University got turned onto Ghost Dog was beyond me. Hearing him go on about how he loved the RZA was beyond bizarre.

But to Jarmusch. He is a bit hit and miss.

Kill yourself if you haven't seen Dead Man.

Slap your face if you haven't seen Down by Law.

I haven't seen his most recent film, but the Coffee and Cigarettes would be a good introduction to the garbage he is capable of making. One of my rules on small budget or "independent" films, if it has a ensemble cast, run.

Arguably his best. Arguably. And how it has been killed by one off episode remakes by 493 TV series.

Jacob's Ladder

I'm not sure how I managed to miss this movie for all these years. It's difficult for me to express my thoughts about it. I've never seen a more disturbing movie. Horrifying. And yet I found it to be a brilliant movie that dealt with the themes of reality and insanity, heaven and hell, good and evil, and the intense spiritual and psychological struggle that leads to redemption. This is a movie that deserves more than one viewing in order to fully appreciate it, however there is no way that I can subject myself to it again. This may be the darkest movie I've ever seen, and yet it is ultimately redemptive. If I had seen this movie before I was Orthodox, I probably would have hated it. But viewing it from an Orthodox worldview, I found its portrayal of the agony of emotional, spiritual, and psychological struggle to be quite profound. It's also a powerful anti-war film. I can't say that I actually recommend this movie, because it is deeply disturbing on so many levels. But I think it was an incredible work of art that will definitely leave a lasting impression.

Asteriktos, to me you are a wonderful gift to my life that keeps on giving.

I watched the movie today and I loved it.

About the priest in the picture, all we learn about him is that he owns two liquor stores in LA (California, not the state) and smokes cigars. Based on this limited experience with this character, he is a good and loving priest.

If you want movies with sex, this movie is not for you.
If you want movies with 4-letter swear words, this movie is not for you.
If you do not like male-male kissing, this movie is not for you.
If you want a comedy that makes fun of a single or multiple characters, this movie is not for you.
If you want a movie where the male characters seem to be idiots, this is not a movie for you.
If you want a movie with an overtly dysfunctional family, this movie is not for you.
If you believe reviewers that a movie not consisting of the tropes above are well worn tropes of the past, this movie is not for you.

I have very little to combat these horrendous negatives.

My perspectives.

If you are a parent of an autistic child or adult who believes society hates them:

This is the movie for you to watch with him or her. There are so few movies that do not contain persecution in one form or another.

This is the movie for you because it centers on sacrificing your superficial desires for the sake of those you love and the true joy (which I believe) results.

It isn’t much for you, but it is a movie centered on love, which is what we all need.

Made me want to read more about her. Apparently it was Chanel who originated the  post-WWI female look. All the more reason for loving this movie.

In the mood for some Mironov tonight.

Here's what I've seen, in rank-order ...

Unbelievable Adventures of Italians in Russia
Property of the Republic
Diamond Arm
Man From Boulevard Des Capucines
My Friend Ivan Lapshin

So, besides 12 Chairs (which is already on my must-see list), what's the Mironov flick I'm missing out on the most?
