So, I did see the 2011 Hara-Kiri last night as it was on netflix.  Wow.  That was a sad movie.  Can anyone tell me what that green leaf shaped food was?  Some kind of cake, I think.

Looks like I am getting Ran sent to me.  I started watching it a couple times while it was on instant play (it isn't anymore) but always got interrupted.

Watch it when you got some energy. I think Mifune and Kurosawa are actually capable solving the "Lear problem".

I believe it was a type of rice cake (mochi) of which there are countless varieties. It looked like it had some black bean paste filling.

Terrible, terrible movie (watched on Netflix). Someone who reviewed it said it was a brilliant parody of Storm/Disaster movies. If it was I missed out on what made it interesting.

Wizard of OZ is on right now while I am posting...........Never gets old.

For some reason I have passionately hated that movie since I was little. It always felt really obnoxious and insincere. I get a totally different feeling from the book, which I love. And I love the film Return to Oz.

Huh.

That's the one. I'm now hunting down the Ian McKellen version of Richard III. The offers I've found, even on Amazon, are still ridiculously expensive.

So after years of anticipation and expecting to be blown away, I was hugely disappointed by Man of Steel. It just left a bad taste in my mouth. So I got on Netflix and watched the animated special Superman vs. The Elite. It wasn't great, per se, but it did help cleanse my pallet.

I was almost in tears by the end of it. So much terrible dialogue, over the top symbolism, and weak character/plot development had a good quarter of the audience laughing throughout.

Yeah I'd say that reviews for generically bad movies can be reduced to a generic sentence or two, which is basically true for Man of Steel.

But as for the rest of the Superman movies, I can't really comment. I think I watched one or two a while ago but I'm not a huge fan of the genre in the first place...

I started watching the movie TiMER, but only got maybe 20 minutes into it before turning it off. Seemed like a decent enough premise, especially given it's quirky tone, but for whatever reason it just wasn't drawing me in, and I was relatively sure I knew how it was going to end...

This is a great film. Spike Lee's best (I am not a big fan at all). Brian Cox's monologue at the end could be short film. Arguably one of the best and first "9/11" films made.

Yep, that one. Made me wonder if it is possible any more to have a Johnny Depp film without Helena Bonham Carter in it as well. Tongue The Alice Cooper cameo was precious. Cheesy

I watched a bit of Letters From Iwo Jima again.

I have seen a number of Pacific War movies.  IMO this is probably the best.  Flags of Our Fathers was good seen alongside Iwo Jima, but otherwise there were a lot of boring parts.  I might have to watch The Thin Red Line again but I just thought it was oppressively dull the first time.  As for HBO's The Pacific, I liked it more than the bits of Band of Bro's that I have seen.  I would definitely like to get The Pacific on DVD so I can FF through the not shooting parts.

Glad you liked it. You should really see all his later work.

Mifune and Kurosawa are the Japanese Herzog and Kinsky.

If you want to go on a lark and get into film theory or criticism, you should see how Kurosawa gets dumped on.
