Eastern Saints in the Catholic Church

In light of the division between east and west, what criteria does the Roman Catholic Church use in determining whether an eastern Christian was a saint or not? To narrow in on what I am asking, do they use a date like 1054CE as a cut off date, or do they require that an eastern Christian was in communion with Rome, or perhaps something else?

I think Rome has long been pretty welcoming of including Orthodox saints on the Byzantine Catholic calendar if they lived before the Council of Florence in the 15th century, with several exceptions (Photios and Mark of Ephesus).

1054 is not at all an important date for Catholics.

Thank you. I don't think 1054 should be an important date for Orthodox either, but sometimes when it comes to whether certain western Christians are considered saints it is used as a criterion. At least I've seen this at the grass roots level; but I don't claim that the people who actually make the final decisions about glorification of saints use that specific date.

It's interesting that the date isn't important for Roman Catholics.  Can one of you post some sort of a summary of the issues of that council, as well as the Roman Catholic Church's problems with the theology of the aforementioned Orthodox saints?
