Anyone here have any musical talents or hobbies? Guitar players, rockers, hip-hop emcees, country music performers or maybe you play a classical instrument to keep it classy and sophisticated? Share your skills and talents. Music is a huge part of my life and is a window into the thoughts of the soul in my opinion. I can decently play the guitar after taking lessons for about two years starting in sixth grade, I've been writing poetry and hip-hop lyrics since I was eleven, and right now I am in the process of learning to use all those fancy electronic gadgets in the recording studio and I am aiming to take piano lessons over the summer.

Guitar and a little bass. Fiddling about with piano/keys when I can. You can hear my latest project, '77 punk with a hard rock feel, at The Snallygasters Bandcamp page. We're about to finally put out a 7" vinyl record. My first band, Spitfires United, plying what we called "premium streetpunk", has a "best of" available for free download at Spitfires United Anthology. I still miss playing with these guys a whole lot. I was very spoiled in that my first real band had of one of the best punk rock drummers ever (Kent Stax of DCHC greats Scream) and a fantastic (if somewhat of a jackass) bass player in Chris Suspect, formerly of the Suspects who almost singlehandedly revived the style in DC in the mid-90s. Thankfully, this latest reunion has made us all realize how much we miss playing together and we plan on gigging out more frequently than once every two years or so. There will soon be some demos up of a mod-revival sideproject at The Idle Gossip facebook page. Think the Jam meets Slade.

Clarinet! Word! I played that for 11 years. I haven't touched one in a long time though.

Guitar - Have been playing, on and off, for 18 years. If you heard me play you'd have guessed 18 days. Though I have been playing more lately as I've been teaching my younger brother some stuff.
Bass - Play it on and off. Every once in a while I diddle the same half dozen things (Dawn Patrol, etc.) for a few minutes.
I've also tried drums (an expensive mistake) and one of the woodwinds in elementary school... clarinet maybe.

Bass guitar, was in a blues band for a little bit. Played in the praise band in the church I used to go to. I actually would sometimes use distortion on the bass in church. Done some bluegrass/gospel jamming. I sing was in in the Church Choir in the church I grew up in, and Chorus and musicals in highschool. Took voice lessons in college and when I was younger too. Sang in a band for a bit but couldn't convince the guitarist that it was easier for him to change keys, with his guitar than it was for me with my voice. Used to write song lyrics/poetry too.

Operatic singer here.
To clarify, by operatic, I don't mean that I imitate the sound and style of opera singers, I mean that I have an opetatically viable voice and that I have sung roles on stage in an 800 seat house without amplification and with a live orchestra. That being said, I am still not a vocational singer, as I remain a student for now. Chances are that I never will be a vocational singer, as most singers never wind up being successful singers, but I can always hope.

Music has always played an important role in my life as well. I was trained to sing classical music but country music and 30s-50s showtunes can be interesting. I was also taught a fusion of Arabic/Indian/Persian vocal maqqam. Im trying to learn more about music theory and freshen up my horrible piano skills . Im into many different types of music from alternative rock to arabic folk. I love singing different types of music.

I try to play guitar. I don't seem to get any better, but I enjoy it. It's a wonderful release for me. I also play harmonica. Played blues harp all through my high school years. Haven't picked it up in a while though. I need to get back into it. But I keep trying to play guitar for some reason. If we all lived near each other I bet we'd could form an awesome Orthodox band! Youtube link or it didn't happen. Lol, all I have ever posted on youtube is a recording of myself when I was 19 or so. As you can imagine, we are forbidden from putting up clips from our opera performances at school for reasons of copyright (especially with newly published and translated operas).

In order of skill: piano, guitar, violin, a little accordion, harmonica if that counts.
Nine years of classical piano training, three of violin, self-taught on the guitar and accordion. I can mostly play an organ based on my piano training, but I have trouble with the foot pedals.
I really, really want to get a piano since my last one died a terrible, terrible death, and the electronic keyboard I had afterward didn't last long. I only break out the guitar two-three times a month. The violin sits in the closet 4-5 months at a time.

Back when I was growing up and in the Methodist Church, I was in the choir. Spent a good 10 or so years in it from 5 years old to Highschool (they didn't offer middle school--or high school, for that matter--choir when I was 11 and 12). I anchored the bass section, and from 8th-12th grade, we went to gatherings of youth choirs from across the country (and Canada, too) in a given city. It was called Youthcue, and our grand performances were all recorded professionally. Still have those CDs somewhere. Protestant or not, I still enjoy listening to those hymns. Good music and a special time of my life. We sang in DC twice, Atlanta, San Antonio, and Toronto.
As far as instruments, I have a rudimentary knowledge of the recorder and ocarina. I'd like to learn how to play the piano or violin--two of my favorite instruments--but I just haven't the time or money. Maybe one day...

some guitar and piano. i love to sing (i would say that I have an ok voice). I was lead vocals for a celtic rock band when I was in college... we played two shows and the first one we opened for Albannach (a celtic folk music band from Scotland). For one song I played the bodhran (a celtic drum), but that was mostly to keep the tempo than it was melting faces with a hardcore drum solo (which didn't happen).

My band had a myspace page http://www.myspace.com/woadwarriorsband back in the day with a song that was recorded by our lead guitarist and our piper, both on vocals. I was living elsewhere when they did that song. I think one of the best songs we did was a medley of Lord of the Dance, Blue Bells of Scotland, and Scotland the Brave (sans lyrics on that one). We called it Lord of the Blue Bells of Scotland the Brave. That was the one where I played the bodhran. I think our favorite song was Up to Me by Seven Nations. We just loved to play and sing that one. Also, there should be a few pics of my band and I playing our first show on my FB account. Most of the pics look terrible because of low light issues with my camera.

some guitar and piano. i love to sing (i would say that I have an ok voice).
Nice. I would love to hear some of that. Selam Unfortunately, we never actually recorded anything. Sounds like fun. It was at the time, but like so many other things life got in the way. Sometimes I wish I could still be in a band.

I'd love to see some videos of everyone's music. I'm sure the tastes vary, but I'm always interested in hearing what other people are doing. I play just for fun. Not in a band and nowhere close to being good enough, but I enjoy playing what little I know how to play. I'd love some advice and constructive criticism from other musicians out there. Here's a little reggae groove I made tonight. I hope others will post some music as well. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pEJVeousRK0&feature=youtube_gdataSelam

Heres a video of my old pop/rock band i played with in college. We took all the videos on our channel down, but someone else uploaded these. Im the guy with the afro on the far side of the stage. I was the ugly one, so the little middle school girls didnt like to film me.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KRIwcz37NtA&feature=relmfuand heres a video of me slaying the drums. our drummer had an emergency, so i got to fill in. i kinda suck, but it was fun nonetheless. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nRX4fVO3GOU&list=UU3c99TrnaM3AGMPTpmz_9cg&index=6&feature=plcpI dont have any videos of my metal band from high school. thats what id really like for you to see... haha!

Long time guitarist, and advertised teaching "any recorded song" while teaching in a music store during my college years, during the "age of shred" (unless one deems that not over!) Mostly I play instrumental music, e.g. Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, but other styles as well (my voice is for in the shower, lol). Through the years I've always picked up the guitar at least a bit every day; I use to play 9 or 10 hours at a stretch back in the day. I have nothing posted online. Below are my babies; two are homemade, all with Fernandes Sustainers and Vai pickups/electronics; the JS-3 Ibanez was painted by Donnie Hunt, which I picked up for about $1200 new -they are selling for as much as $10,000 now, but not in the condition mine is in after years of loving abuse as the "main weapon". A homemade blue guitar, and another photo of my homemade black guitar after I changed the hardware to black. The blue is CGCGCE; others are usually standard or Eb.

Guitar, bass (I hate it, but those friends whose opinions I trust tell me I write tasty bass lines), a smattering of keyboard/piano/organ, and about as much banjo.
