I think the Union Jack is one of the coolest looking flags.

The British spirit and our stiff upper lip:  we never falter in the face of adversity....

Not a Brit, not a drop of Brit blood.  In fact, we Egyptians and Arabs have issues with the Brits.  But....

The late Queen Mum of blessed memory.  As Hitler described her, "The most dangerous woman in Europe":

When asked how she felt after the Nazis bombed Buckingham Palace with her in it: "I'm glad....at least now I can look the East End in the face."

When criticized for visiting, in the height of fashion, the bombing victims in the East End of London:"People always wear their best to see me.  Why shouldn't I when visiting them."

When criticized for not leaving London, nor sending the young Princesses Elizabeth (II) and Margaret to safety in Canada (as many Brits were doing), as the cabinet was insisting:"The children will leave only if I leave.  And I will leave only if the Kings leaves.

And the King will never leave."

The Celts

I'd love to see a revived Celtic Church WRO.

btw, just to identify:(clockwise from upper left): Brittany (the French might argue with you on this), Isle of Man (not in the United Kingdom, but a personal union), Scotland (see below), Wales (not represented in the Union Jack(!)), Cornwall (land of the Prayer Book Rebellion), and Ireland.  The symbol in the center is the triskele
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Triskele

I think the Union Jack is one of the coolest looking flags.

You mean the corrected one?

I concur.  British food is the ultimate comfort food.

Please PM me so I can set you straight on comfort food.  ;)

Seriously, here are the ultimate comfort foods:

Mac and cheese at Mr. Friendly's in Columbia, SC; shrimp/oysters/or catfish over grits at Charleston, SC; fried chicken, okra, and greens anywhere in the south; any eggplant dish in Istanbul; pasta a faggioli, pasta carbonara, panzanella, pizza in Italy; Macedonian bean soup; Greek cheese, spinach or leek pastries; any Thai curry or if you want mild--Pad Thai; German chicken and noodle soup; French cassoulets; Spanish tapas.... I have barely started... Shultz my friend, you need serious exposure to good food.

Well, I am half English, half celtic, but I have never really understood the fighting, hatred and arguments. There is so much bloody history, but, to me, history is history. I am not in favour of Irish indepenence, Welsh independence, Scottish independence, etc. I think unity is very important. However, we should all be "proud" of our roots - the English should embrace their culture, the Welsh should embrace their culture, and so on - I love the diversity of the United Kingdom, between all four of the countries. Three words: Romeo and Juliet..  :)
